  Cleft Lip and Palate

  "Cleft" is a term used to describe something that has been split or divided. Cleft lips and palates are unfortunately common craniofacial defects typically occur very early during fetal development for unknown reasons. Around one out of 700 babies are born with a cleft lip or palate. They can occur on independently of one another or together with different degrees of severity.
